Mendy’s Deli is a fast-food meat restaurant in Crown Heights. The Kosher Cactus visited Mendy’s in June 2021. This review was written in July of 2021.

Where is Mendy’s Deli located?

Mendy’s Deli street view

Mendy’s Deli is located at 792 Eastern Parkway, at the corner of Kingston Avenue. Mendy’s sits directly beneath the iconic Jewish Children’s Museum, directly across the street from 770. (770 is the synagogue headquarters of Chabad. Chabad are the ‘are-you-Jewish?’-guys.)

Mendy’s is open from 11AM-12AM, Sunday- Thursday, and is closed on Fridays and Saturdays.

If you want to take public transport, Mendy’s is just steps away from the 3 train, Kingston Avenue station.

You can order online from Mendy’s website, JMenu, or any local food-delivery app.

I have it on good authority that Mendy’s Deli has the best delivery service in Crown Heights. Food arrives an average of 10 minutes faster than any other place.

Mendy’s has tropical American fast food, Israeli cuisine, sushi, Chinese food, and a variety of catering options. The restaurant has very quick service, and is open for lunch and supper every day.

There are a lot of options on the menu. A lot. It’s easily overwhelming. I think your best bet is to first decide exactly what kind of food you are in the mood for (like, Chinese) and then select a specific dish (like, Beef Lo Mein).

In the interest of full disclosure, I will say that Mendy’s portion sizes are not as generous as some other fast-food restaurants. Each serving is exactly enough for one person, and that’s pretty much it. The food, however is actually really, really good.

What are the best dishes on the menu at Mendy’s Deli?

The best chicken wings at Mendy’s… and probably in Crown Heights

Teriyaki Wings!!

I adore chicken wings. These are sticky, sweet, fried to perfection and topped with toasted sesame seeds. The dish comes with a plateful, and they are the perfect appetizer.

Meat Combo Sandwich.

Ready for a #MendysHack? Ask for the Meat Sandwich in a wrap,  and get brisket, salami and pastrami. This is the important part: ask them to heat the wrap before adding any meats! Add fried onions (and grilled veg, if you like) and a smear of pesto mayo. Ask for techina and pickles on the side. Eat the best wrap of your life. (Mendy’s, if you are reading this and want to add it to the menu permanently, can you call it the Cactus Wrap? thaaaaanks.)

Baby Chicken Salad.

Mendy’s is cool about customizing things, so you can tweak this as you wish. There are always plenty of roasted and fresh vegetables that you can add. The topping is a grilled baby chicken, with a sweet and sour sauce. Delicious.

Grilled Veggies.

It may be a side dish, but I could eat 7 or 8 servings of this, and still want more. It’s a variety of vegetables- zucchini, peppers, green beans, squash… just grilled. There’s nothing super fancy about this, but it is addictive. And healthy. What’s not to love?

Sesame Chicken.

The Kosher Chinese classic. Mendy’s does a great version of this, and it tastes like your dream of Sesame Chicken tastes. It’s crispy breaded chicken nuggets, flash-fried, and tipped with a sticky, syrupy, sesame-y, soy sauce. And sesame seeds, obviously. Get it, it’s delicious.

What else is on the menu?

What is the ambience like at Mendy’s Deli?

It’s not the Cactus Wrap (is that a thing yet?), but it sure looks good!

The restaurant just recently updated their look! There are gorgeous glass drop pendant lights and wood-furnished counter-tops.

There’s a room on the side of the main restaurant for parties, which is in use most nights.

Mendy’s works cafeteria-style; you can order at the counter and sit down at the tables. They will call your order number, or, if the restaurant is quieter, bring your food to you.

On the off chance that your order is incorrect (deliveries too), Mendy’s is extremely efficient in correcting the mistake and making sure you are satisfied.

Are they kid-friendly?

Yes, Mendy’s is incredibly kid-friendly. It might be the location- just downstairs from a landmark children’s museum. The restaurant has a few high chairs available all the time, and a kids menu! Chicken Fingers with Fries, a Burger and Fries, or a Hot Dog with Fries. Not exactly prolific, but exactly what every kid wants. For the more adventurous kids, there are plenty of other interesting things on the menu- like Kugel!

Is Mendy’s Deli wheelchair accessible?

This gorgeous side-room services parties on most nights

Yes, it is wheelchair accessible. Mendy’s is on the first floor, and there are no steps to navigate through. The tables are spaced wide enough inside the restaurant to get through easily.

Does Mendy’s Deli serve desserts?

Does cut-up fruit count? If you are looking for a dessert, you can walk on over to Ritas after your meal. It’s about 2 blocks away, and they have dairy-free ice cream.

Final Thoughts

Mendy’s is a really fantastic restaurant to eat in or order take-out from. The service is quick, and the staff and manager were upbeat and happy to accommodate us. For our lunch meal of 2 drinks, a Meat Combo Wrap, and a Burger with Fries, we paid $37.
